Dear Parents and Community,

Welcome to Thunderbolt Elementary School, home of the Jets! I am pleased to serve the Thunderbolt Elementary community as your Principal.

Thunderbolt Elementary opened in 2000 and has always prided itself on ensuring our scholars receive the very best educational experience in a safe and welcoming environment.  Our scholars are provided with appropriately rigorous grade level instruction in the following subjects; English Language Arts (ELA), mathematics, social studies, and science.  We use the adopted Clay County District Schools curricula to ensure our scholars master learning standards.  We also offer a variety of clubs and activities, which include National Elementary Honor Society, safety patrol, robotics club, track team, chorus, math team, and art club.

The Thunderbolt School  Community has a large population of scholars with active duty military parents.  We are pleased the Department of Defense has provided two, full-time Military Life Counselors who help support our scholars during their families deployment.  If you are active military and have questions about what types of support are available to you and your children, please contact Thunderbolt Elementary and ask to speak with one of our MFLAC Counselors.

Participating in your scholar’s educational experience ensures their success.  This includes committing to checking your scholar’s daily folder or planner, reviewing their completed homework or class assignments, establishing at least 20 minutes (or more) of daily reading time and when questions or concerns arise, reaching out to your scholar’s teacher(s).  We also encourage participation in our fabulous TBE Parent Faculty Association (PFA) or volunteering to help your scholar’s teacher(s).

YOU are YOUR CHILD’S first teacher and with your participation, your scholar will have an incredibly positive educational experience at Thunderbolt Elementary!

Sincerely,

Amy Bathurst

Assistant Principal, Jeffrey Miller

Welcome to Thunderbolt Elementary!

I am honored to introduce myself to you as the assistant principal of Thunderbolt Elementary School. I have enjoyed meeting so many of the incredible families in our community and feel extremely fortunate for this opportunity to work with your children and the talented and dedicated staff here at Thunderbolt Elementary!

Prior to coming to Thunderbolt Elementary, I worked in the county office as the program specialist for the Specific Learning Disabled program and the ESE curriculum specialist for math. Before that endeavor, I worked as a math coach for W.E Cherry Elementary. Previously, I have served as an elementary teacher and exceptional student educator in our school district. I was honored as the teacher of the year for W.E. Cherry Elementary in 2015. I have also been recognized by the State of Florida as a Florida High Impact Teacher, as a result of my students making some of the most significant learning gains in the entire state. I was recognized every year that this award was issued by the state.

I have demonstrated leadership in a variety of educational endeavors and community endeavors over the past decade. I worked as a textbook consultant for Mcgraw Hill, professional development presenter for Instructional Partners, and a test item writer/editor for ESE teacher exams for Pearson. I have coached over twenty sport teams in private and school leagues. I have also served six years in the Boy Scouts Scout of America as an adult leader.

Please know that the Thunderbolt Elementary staff is dedicated to ensuring that every student receives instruction that meets their individual academic needs in a safe and supportive school environment. Our Thunderbolt Staff is invested into our school’s mission. Our mission is to provide a safe academic environment in which children and staff are encouraged to strive for excellence in scholarship and sociability while showing respect for self and others.Thank you parents for supporting our children and staff to fulfill our vision.

As we partner together for this school year, we will need your help! Our commitment to you is to keep our focus on teaching and learning. You can help us by making sure students arrive to school on time, each day. Our school day begins at 8:30 and school ends at 2:42. Please make all efforts to schedule any student appointments before or after school hours to ensure that your child receives a full day's instruction

I encourage every family to join and/or volunteer with our Parent Faculty Association. We have a fabulous PFA with many opportunities to get involved. We thank our PFA for their time and efforts that help make our staff, students and families feel welcomed and supported at Thunderbolt Elementary.

As we begin the new school year, please make sure to keep the lines of communication open with your child’s teacher. She/he will always be your first contact for any questions or concerns you may have. Parents and teachers working together will increase your child’s success, while also serving as a great model for students as to how to work effectively as a team.

Sincerely,

Jeffrey Miller
